Prof. Dr. Dr. theol. h.c. Mualla Selçuk was the seventh international fellow at the Heidelberg University of Education in the summer semester 2024.

The research focus of the professor emeritus at Ankara University focuses on Islamic religious education and interreligious education. During her stay in Heidelberg, the former Director General of Religious Education at the Turkish Ministry of National Ministry of National Education and recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany gave a seminar on "Learning in Encounter as an issue of Islamic Anthropology", gave a lecture open to the university public and was a speaker at the teacher training course "Interreligious Learning in Encounter/ Sharing Worldviews". Selçuk also pursued her research work with Prof. Dr. Katja Boehme (Institute of Philosophy and Theology).

The cooperation with the University of Ankara is based on the project "Sharing Worldviews: Learning in Encounter for Common Values in Diversity", which qualifies prospective teachers for the demands of a school in a pluralistic society. The project is also aimed at teachers who are already teaching. They came together in Heidelberg in June for a corresponding training course, where Prof. Dr. Selçuk spoke together with Prof. Dr. Imran Schröter (Karlsruhe University of Education) about the challenges and opportunities of “Sharing Wordviews: Learning in Encounter as a task of Islamic Religious Education”.

Henrike Schön, Head of the International Office in Heidelberg, hopes that Selçuk's stay will not only provide impetus for peaceful coexistence in religiously and ideologically heterogeneous societies, but also for international universities development: "The International Teaching Fellowship programme is a substantial contribution to 'Internationalization@Home' and gives teachers and students excellent opportunities for international encounters with highly qualified researchers."
